Stephen was born in Melbourne, Australia, where he continues to reside. He lives less than one kilometer from the Caulfield Racecourse, which gives him the opportunity to come into contact with these fine animals. Stephen also spends a significant amount of time on the Mornington Peninsula, home to the Mornington Racecourse, where again he can soak up the atmosphere of the race track. The Mornington Peninsula also offers many opportunities for seascape and landscape painting and Stephen's paintings of the area have proven popular.

Stephen has been painting for more than 20 years, however, he has only recently taken it up full time. His preferred medium is oil and he would describe himself as a tonal painter. He greatly admires the work of Max Meldrum and his associates. Stephen's knowledge of art is not only practical but theoretical also, as Stephen has always enjoyed reading about art-related subjects and he owns a healthy collection of this type of material.
Stephen enjoys painting a wide variety of subject matter - seascapes, landscapes, portraits, interiors, still life and horses.
